Like most of his most notable traits we associate with Zeus besides him being a sky god with thunder powers and married to Hera are mostly just things he stole from from his brother Poseidon, the original top god in Mycenaean Greece (along with the two Queens, Demeter and Persephone) and former God of the Underworld before being demoted to being God of the Oceans (with Hades being created to fill in bits where old Poseidon still appeared).
It is just kind of funny to think about the evolution of Greek Mythology and how Zeus evolved from absolute nobody of a god in Mycenaean Greece to becoming the top God, seemingly because members of his cult got into positions of power at the right places and at the right time.
